Restoration (Or another re-specc)

Due to a scarcity of healers for the second half of Karazhan tomorrow, I've re-specced to a Restoration/Balance hybrid build, as I will be Off Tank healing for the night. I contemplated going full healing and taking tree form, but I remembered reading somewhere (I think it was Resto4Life, I may be wrong) that just using HoTs wasn't that effective until you came close to 1,500 +Healing.

The spec I've chosen is a 26/0/35 which can be viewed here. The damage bonus that the balance tree provides is very nice - it means that I haven't damaged my ability to solo too much for the few days while I'm a healer.

There are two spells in the balance tree that are really the core of this build however.

3/3 Lunar Guidance
Increases your spell damage and healing by 25% of your total intellect.
I wouldn't have nearly enough +damage to raid in Moonkin form without this talent, and it's the same for +healing - a massive bonus that will ease the fact that I don't have a great set of healing gear.

3/3 Moonglow
Reduces the Mana cost of your Moonfire, Starfire, Wrath, Healing Touch, Regrowth and Rejuvenation spells by 9%.
The reduction in the Mana cost of three of my main healing spells is certainly not to be sniffed at.

Some people advocate going further still down the Balance tree and going at least 33/0/28 - this enables you to take three points in Dreamstate which turns 10% of your intellect into mp5. I'm hoping that my Mana regen will be fine - it's near 100mp5 without this talent, and there are goodies in the Restoration tree I would rather have.

I think that I've selected my points in the Restoration tree very carefully - all of them provide a useful bonus and are fairly self explanatory, but again there are a few key ones.

5/5 Naturalist
Reduces the cast time of your Healing Touch spell by 0.5 sec and increases the damage you deal with physical attacks in all forms by 10%.
Half a second off the cast time of my major healing spell? Yes please!

3/3 Intensity
Allows 30% of your Mana regeneration to continue while casting and causes your Enrage ability to instantly generate 10 rage.
Not too bothered about rage, but as a Druid healer I'm going to be throwing HoTs around like there's no tomorrow, so I won't make it out of the 5 second rule very often. This is an essential to ensure I have enough Mana.

5/5 Tranquil Spirit
Reduces the mana cost of your Healing Touch and Tranquility spells by 10%.
I don't use Tranquility very often - if I do, something's gone horribly wrong, but the 10% reduction in the Mana cost of Healing Touch is very nice.

Improved Rejuvenation, Gift of Nature, Empowered Touch
I Don't need to go into these individually, but they provide a very nice boost to two of my main healing spells, and a 10% boost to all healing.

Swiftmend
Consumes a Rejuvenation or Regrowth effect on a friendly target to instantly heal them an amount equal to 12 sec. of Rejuvenation or 18 sec. of Regrowth.
The reason for coming so far down the restoration tree - a very useful spell to counteract spike damage.

A final note - taking three points in Living Spirit may seem a bit odd here, but I think it provides a really nice synergy with Intensity and, of course, Innervate.

So I have some nice talents that boost the viability of individual spells, approximately 1.1k +healing, which will go up if I get a few drops today and my [Idol of the Emerald Queen].

I'm not sure how well this will work, but my Raid Leader has confidence in me and we spent a long time discussing this build over ventrilo before I went and re-specced. I'll give you an update on being a Healkin after Kara tomorrow night!

Dreamstate would certainly improve mana regen, but I would much rather have Swiftmend over that. I can't imagine healing without it.

While Living Spirit is nice, personally I would have maxed out Subtlety. But it looks like a good build and hopefully it works well for you.

I decided on living spirit for mana regen. As I'm not re-speccing for a general use, but just this one raid, I know that the tanks are very good so threat shouldn't be an issue. If it is, I'll get Salvation put on me.

If I were using this build more generally then I think you're right, Subtlety might be the way to go.
